Four boats sailed in the first outing of the Recovery Series on Saturday June 13. At the start the wind was 10-12 KTS NW – excellent for limited crews to sail a course to round first Ballenas Islands and then the Outer Navy buoy to Starboard and return to finish between Richard Nixon and the Marina entrance.
When the boats were northwest of Ballenas, the wind switched off for a while so crews had time for lunch and an afternoon nap while drifting with the tide. In light air the effect of tidal current is so significant. The wind eventually shifted to a light SE breeze and Eric and Bronwen Young (FanaSea) followed by Single-Hander John Collins (Spud) were able to finish the course.
The next race will be Saturday June 20. Looks like pleasant weather – a great opportunity to get lots of boats on the water. I will email the selected course at 0800 June 20.

Hope to see lots of boats on the water on Saturday June 20. Additional boats not already registered may register by midnight Thursday June 18 at https://scyc.ca/series-or-bay-race-registration/ – select “Recovery Series” in the drop down list that is entitled “Race or Race Name – Choose from List”. I will provide  individual boat start times for all courses to newly registered boats by noon Friday June 19.
