About SCYC

Experience Vancouver Island with SCYC

Situated between Nanaimo and Parksville, on the east coast of Vancouver Island, members of the Schooner Cove Yacht Club enjoy racing and cruising for twelve months of the year.Schooner Cove Yacht Club, through our Staff Captain, and other volunteers, organize cruises so members can experience the best of the coastal waters and enjoy the camaraderie of cruising with a group. We also have a large Reciprocal Program with many other yacht clubs and a Cruising Station Program.

 

The Schooner Cove Yacht Club has a yearly social program and features casual activities  as well as organized events. We also provide educational opportunities.

Racing is a great way to learn about the intricacies and the joy of sailing. Our inclusive racing program welcomes all sailors, whether novice or experienced. You’ll find competitive series and regattas as well as fun racing.

Welcome to Schooner Cove Yacht Club. SCYC offers a variety of programs and events that will ensure you are active both on and off the water. Members can access our Cruising Station Program  as well as an extensive Reciprocal Moorage Program with yacht clubs in British Columbia and several in Washington State.

Schooner Cove Yacht Club hosts scheduled cruises for power boaters and sailors to enjoy from June through September. There is a very active racing program that includes the June BMW Lasqueti Island Regatta (VIRS qualifier), competitive series racing and rallies from September through April, and single-handed events. Wednesday night fun racing takes place during the summer and club members always enjoy participating in the September Fleet Regatta.

Social functions are a great way to meet other boaters and there is a wide range of activities to choose from; casual and annual planned events, speakers, themed events, ladies  and gents luncheons, and the annual Commodore’s Ball. If you’re new to boating or to this area, learning from other members is a great way to gain knowledge and confidence.

Additional member benefits include discounts from some of our advertisers, a Yearbook published annually in March, and reduced moorage fees at Fairwinds Marina.

Download the SCYC Membership Application, fill it in completely and mail it to the address provided on the form. Your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted by an SCYC Executive member.

SCYC Racing 

Racing on Vancouver Island

SCYC hosts a racing program based at Fairwinds Marina. Racing is the best way to learn about the intricacies and joy of sailing. Our inclusive racing program welcomes all kinds and ages of sailors, from experienced racers to novices. Enjoy the camaraderie, fun and exhilaration of yacht racing! Our skippers and crew compete locally and at other racing events in BC, Washington and Oregon.

 

  • Club Races & Rallies during winter, spring and fall (handicapped and non-handicapped)
  • Wednesday Evening Summer Fun Racing – ideal for sailors who like to race, or want to learn, but don’t want to get too serious about it
  • June Regatta featuring the BMW Lasqueti Island Race. This regatta offers competitive racing and draws boats from Vancouver Island and Lower Mainland
  • September Fleet Regatta with the focus on fun

SCYC Cruising

Cruise with Us!

Enjoy cruising the eastern waters of Vancouver Island, including Desolation Sound, the Broughtons, the Gulf Islands, the San Juan Islands and Peuget Sound with organized cruises through membership with the club. SCYC has a cruising program with fifteen different marinas you can visit and receive reimbursement up to a set amount. Members also enjoy reciprocal privileges at over 50 yacht clubs. A list of these yacht clubs is available in the Members Area along with a description of each.

 

Club Cruises are offered in spring, summer and fall. Join one of the cruises and explore the anchorages and marinas along the coast and enjoy the amazing camaraderie that SCYC is known for. The annual January 1st Sea Lion Cruise is a great way to kick off the new year. If you’re new to the area or new to boating, cruising with members offers a safe and friendly introduction to the coastal waters and to people with a shared passion for boating.
