Spring Rally #1 —  April 16, 2023

Eric’s Preamble

Hello All;

Peter has asked me to look after the Spring Rally Series.

All the weather guys say that there is going to be a howling wind over night Sat->Sun.  They seem to think that it will have backed down some by Sunday morning.  (I haven’t consulted the Ouija Board yet.)

Since there should be wind I have figured a course (17.5 nm) that should take a while but shouldn’t be too long if it tapers out later on.

If things are clear enough I will try to send out the Go/NoGo on Saturday evening; if not clear enough, then I will see what Ballenas is reporting at 07:00 on Sunday morning.

The course is attached below in Word and Pages.  If you can’t read either of them, let me know and I can try to send it as a PDF.

Please, advise me if you plan to have your boat in the rally.

Cheers,        Eric

Hi All,

With much regret I am cancelling today’s rally.

One vessel has already contacted me with a negative.

At 07h00 Ballenas was 27 w/ gusts, Sisters was 29 with gust and Entrance was 22, a web cam shows huge waves.

We will try again next Sunday.

(Much gnashing of teeth and grumbling)            Eric

Spring Rally #2 — April 23, 2023

Eric’s Preamble

Hi All;  Oh dear.  Sorry, but at least you know what we’re going to be playing at the Gardens on Saturday night.  Second attempt. 🙂

We may have a bit of wet on Sunday but at least we will have some wind and hopefully not toooo much.

Not A Rant:  Last week I felt I had to make a decision and that either way I went, I was not going to be happy with the outcome?  Of course that meant that I had predetermined the outcome; I wasn’t happy.

We’re doing all this because we love it and want to be happy.  So, this weekend I am determined to make a decision that either way I go, I’ll be happy!

Oh, of course the course is below in Word & Pages.  A quick note saying you plan to attend is always nice.

Just a reminder that the Bay Race #1 is coming up on May 21.  More will come, but, it will be a pursuit race, so one will need to ‘register’ for it, and provide some sort of a PHRF (or, I get to determine it [yummy]).

Cheers,          Eric

Spring Rally #3 — May 7, 2023

Eric’s Preamble

Hi All;

Please find attached the course for this Sunday’s rally.
The winds are supposed to be 5 – 15, with a significant chance of showers.
If the wind is significant we could lengthen the course by 1.5 nm with a junket around Maude Island, after Ada, before Ruth Mark.

As always, please let me know if you plan to attend.

Cheers,          Eric

Hi All,

All the apps seem to feel that things will be pretty light tomorrow; maybe 5 8 kts.

Tomorrows Rally is a Go.

There has been significant representation that it is easier to determine ones position between the Reef/Nixon and the Breakwater,
rather than Nankivell Point/the Rocks.  We will talk about it at the Skipper’s meeting.

See you tomorrow,         Eric

Spring Rally #5 — June 11, 2023

Eric’s Preamble

Hi All,

This Sunday we have the final Rally of the Spring Season. The forecast is for the wind to be NW 15 – 20 kts.

I’m calling this course Go Around Everything, and it is 16.7 nm.

I have it printed for clockwise which is up wind to start.  If the wind switches to SE, we could do the same course counter-clockwise.

If the winds lighten up, we could leave Navy buoy out.

As always let me know if you plan to attend.

See you soon,            Eric
