As some of you have already heard, the Afterdeck will be removed from the Schooner Cove Marina by September 1st this year.
The Marina will be undergoing a major renovation and reconfiguration project and the space occupied by the Afterdeck is needed for this work. The marina owners will be issuing information on the details of the project in the Spring.
A working group under the leadership of our Rear Commodore, Doug Herchmer, will be dealing with the disposal of the Afterdeck.
To be clear, there is no plan for a replacement of the Afterdeck in the future.
While this is sad news, it should not come as a surprise, as the removal of the Afterdeck has been hinted at by the owners for a number of years.
On the upside, the club’s agreement with the marina for members moorage discount and reciprocal moorage remains in place. The fixed annual cost of the Afterdeck in 2022 was $6410, not including maintenance costs. These funds can now be redirected towards other club activities for the benefit of members.
The club executive will continue to address the various issues involved with this change over coming months.
